Privacy Policy
We do not sell your personal information. We do not share personal information with third parties except for analytics. This policy explains what we collect, how we use it, and the limited cases in which analytics tools receive usage data.
1. Who we are
Alternate Realities is the branching-world service operated at alternaterealities.lol (the “Service”). This Privacy Policy describes how we collect, use, and protect information when you visit or use the Service.
Questions about this policy: privacy@alternaterealities.lol.
2. Our sharing rule
We do not sell your personal information. We do not share personal information with third parties except for analytics. We do not sell data to brokers, advertisers, or other companies. We do not share personal information for third-party advertising or for anyone else’s independent commercial purposes.
The only third parties that receive information about how you use Alternate Realities for their own measurement operations are our analytics providers, as described below. Companies that host the Service, store media, or generate scenes process information solely on our behalf so we can operate Alternate Realities. That processing is not a sale and is not sharing for their own purposes.
3. Information we collect
We collect the following categories of information:
- Content you submit. World titles, text prompts, photos, videos, click coordinates, chosen paths, and other material you provide while creating or exploring worlds.
- Generated records. Scene images, transition videos, story suggestions, and related metadata created from your content so the world can be replayed.
- Technical and usage data. IP address, browser and device type, approximate general location derived from IP, pages viewed, referring URL, timestamps, and diagnostic logs needed to run and secure the Service.
- Analytics data. Page views, feature use, session duration, and similar events collected through analytics tools so we can understand how the Service is used.
- Communications. If you email us, we keep the message and any contact details you include so we can respond.
The Service does not currently require an account. We do not ask for a password, payment card, or profile name unless a later feature does so, in which case this policy will be updated first.
4. How we use information
We use information to:
- create, store, display, and replay the worlds you start;
- generate scene images, story choices, and transition videos from the content you submit;
- operate, maintain, secure, and debug the Service;
- understand usage through analytics and improve the product;
- respond to you and enforce our Terms of Service;
- comply with law and protect the rights, safety, and property of users and of Alternate Realities.
We do not use your content to train public foundation models for unrelated third parties.
5. Analytics — the only third-party sharing
We use analytics to measure visits, feature use, and technical performance. Analytics providers may receive usage and technical data such as pages viewed, referring URLs, device and browser type, approximate location derived from IP address, and interaction events. They may set cookies or similar technologies.
This is the only category of third-party sharing of personal information. We do not allow analytics providers to use Alternate Realities data to advertise to you on other websites or apps, and we do not share personal information with advertising networks, data brokers, or social-media tracking partners.
6. Service providers who process data for us
We use vendors as processors to operate the Service. They are allowed to handle information only to provide their service to us, under contract, and not to use it for their own independent purposes:
- hosting and content delivery for the website and API;
- object storage for images and videos;
- AI generation providers that receive prompts, frames, or clips solely to produce the next scene or transition;
- infrastructure such as databases, queues, and error diagnostics.
Uploaded photos and videos, prompts, and generated media are sent to these processors because the product cannot create or store a world without them. That is processing on our behalf, not sharing with third parties for their own use.
7. Legal disclosure
We may disclose information if we believe in good faith that it is required by law, legal process, or a government request, or that it is necessary to protect the Service, our users, or the public from harm. If we sell or reorganize the operation of Alternate Realities, information may transfer to the successor as part of that transaction, still bound by this policy or a notice we provide.
8. Cookies and similar technologies
We use cookies and similar technologies that are necessary to run the Service (for example, to keep a session working). Analytics tools may also use cookies or local storage to recognize a browser over time. You can control cookies through your browser settings. Blocking analytics cookies will not stop you from using core features, though some measurement will be incomplete.
9. Retention
We keep world content and generated media for as long as the world remains on the Service, and technical logs for a limited period needed for security and operations. Analytics data is kept according to the analytics provider’s retention settings and our need to understand usage. We delete or de-identify information when it is no longer needed, unless a longer period is required by law.
10. Security
We use reasonable administrative, technical, and organizational measures to protect information, including access controls and encrypted transport. No online service is perfectly secure. Media objects are stored under unguessable identifiers; anyone who has a direct media URL may be able to open it.
11. International transfers
The Service may be hosted and processed in countries other than your own, including by analytics and infrastructure providers. Where those countries have different data-protection laws, we rely on appropriate safeguards such as contractual clauses with processors.
12. Children
The Service is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has submitted information, contact privacy@alternaterealities.lol and we will delete it.
13. Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to request access, correction, deletion, a copy of your information, or restriction of processing, and to object to certain processing. You may also have the right to appeal a denial and to lodge a complaint with a data-protection authority.
California residents: we do not sell personal information and we do not share personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising. Analytics is the only third-party disclosure of personal information for a commercial purpose, and it is limited to measuring use of the Service. We do not use or disclose sensitive personal information for purposes that California law treats as requiring a right to limit.
To exercise a privacy request, email privacy@alternaterealities.lol. We may need to verify the request. You may use an authorized agent where the law allows it.
14. Changes
We may update this policy from time to time. The “Last updated” date at the top will change, and the revised policy will apply from that date. If a change is material, we will provide additional notice on the Service when reasonably possible.
